Firearms Shipping Guide

Congratulations! You’ve sold your firearm. We offer the following shipping guide to assist you with shipping the firearm.

Successful Sales (Without Secure Payment Handling)
The parties receive a confirmation of sale email with details of the item sold, final sale price, serial number(s) of firearm(s), and the email address of each party. You should contact the buyer using the email address to make further arrangements to complete the deal for payment and delivery. If you have not received this email within 24 hours of being notified of a successful sale, please inform us by using the Contact Us form.
Successful Sales (Buyer has Selected Secure Payment Handling)
Step One - On successful sales where the buyer has selected Secure Payment Handling (SPH), the seller will receive an email to include the following information:
  • Buyer's name and email address
  • The final sale price
  • Description of the sale item along with serial number
  • Clarification of how the buyer paid for the purchase, such as by credit card, or check
Step Two - Upon the collection of "good funds" from the buyer, a second email is sent to the seller to inform you of where/who to ship the firearm. If the buyer is a 01 FFL dealer, you will be directed of where to send a copy of your FFL (in proper form).
Step Three - After you ship the firearm, you are to go to complete the shipping report found on your My Guntopia page. To access the My Guntopia page, you must login and enter your password.

Check List for Shipping Firearms (please print out this check list for use when shipping your firearm)

Inspect your firearm and make sure it is completely UNLOADED. Use caution when checking the chamber and/or removing ammunition. You should never have a loaded firearm indoors, whether you are loading or unloading.

Package your firearm in a sturdy carton. Do NOT ship ammo with your firearm.

Confirm that you have included all the product literature, materials, accessories, or parts that belong with the firearm.

Confirm the address to which you are shipping to is correct based on the information that you have. For those Sellers who are FFL licensees, confirm that your ship to address is to the licensed premises. The carrier may ask to see the FFL license, so have it handy when shipping.

You must inform the carrier that your package contains a firearm.

For your protection, we suggest you insure your firearm.

Upon completion of shipping of your firearm, please go online to Guntopia and complete the "Shipment Received" report as directed in your email.

Options for Shippers of Firearms (for non licensed persons)

  • US Postal Service (USPS) – An unlicensed person may ship a shotgun or rifle to an FFL Dealer in another state. Handguns ARE NOT mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. The Postal Service recommends that long guns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms.
  • Common or Contract Carriers - Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearms and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.
  • Federal Express (FEDEX) – Will accept firearms by Priority Overnight Service.
  • United Parcel Service (UPS) – Will accept handgun shipments by Next Day Air only. Long guns can be shipped UPS ground service.

Please check with the company you intend to use regarding their policy on shipping firearms.
